A Good Minister T.E.A.C.H.E.S.

All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

~ 2 Timothy 3:16-17 NKJV

A good minister of Jesus Christ is an instructor, who is skilled in the Word of Truth that sets believers apart for God’s purposes and makes them holy as He is holy. Thus, a good minister T.E.A.C.H.E.S. the sound wholesome teachings of the Lord Jesus, for he knows that these truths are the foundation of a godly life.

Therefore, a good minister TRAINS. He disciplines himself, keeping fit spiritually. He understands that spiritual training in godliness is valuable in everything he does because it helps him now in this life and in the life to come.

A good minister EQUIPS. As Christ’s gift to the church, he equips God’s people for the work of ministry. So that they can go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the Name of the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit. So that they can also teach new disciples to obey all the commands that Christ has given us.

A good minister is ATTENTIVE to the Word. He constantly nourishes himself through studying the words of faith and good Christian doctrine (teachings) he closely follows. Therefore, this good workman eagerly presents himself before God as a perfect and mature minister, without shame, as one who correctly explains the Word of Truth.

A good minister’s CHARACTER is key. He listens to the Word of Truth and responds to it, setting himself apart as a model of good works. He is holy in his teaching, serious in behavior, and says true and right words that no opponents of the faith can refute.

A good minister HERALDS. He preaches the Word of God, standing upon it no matter what. He rises to the occasion and preaches when it is convenient or not in the full expression of the Holy Spirit—with wisdom and patience as he instructs and teaches.

A good minister EDIFIES. He builds up the body of Christ until we all reach oneness in the faith and knowledge of the Son of God to complete spiritual maturity, reaching the fullness of Christ. He encourages them to obey the Word and continue to walk by faith and not by sight.

A good minister is SPIRIT-LED. He trusts God from the bottom of his heart and doesn’t try to figure out everything alone. He listens for God’s voice in everything he does, everywhere he goes, knowing that He’s the One Who keeps him on track. Then, because He allows the Holy Spirit to guide his life so that he won’t do what his sinful nature craves, he runs to God and runs from evil!

When you live and breathe the Word of Truth, it empowers you by its instruction and correction. It gives you the strength to take the right direction and leads you deeper into the path of godliness. Then you will be God’s servant, fully mature and perfectly prepared to fulfill any assignment God gives you.

So, let us carefully consider our spiritual lives and every cherished truth we teach, speaking His Truth in love and growing up in all things into Christ. Living what we preach will then release an even more abundant life inside us and to all those who listen to us.
